GLM8 – Flowers and pollinator habitat

Once your GLM8 requirement has been met, there is an option to apply for the “Biodiversity and Sustainability” bio-scheme. This offers an additional subsidy rate of DKK 2,740 and a further supplement of DKK 1,500 if you choose to establish pollinator fallow land.

You must comply with the GLM 8 requirement. You must apply for subsidies for at least 0.01 ha on the individual field and for at least 0.30 ha under the scheme.

You may apply for biodiversity & sustainability for a maximum of 50% of your area for basic payment. You cannot apply for areas where there are already national or EU rules prohibiting you from cultivating the area.

What do I need to do to receive a subsidy?

Mowing fallow or field margins can be chosen, but there is also the option to establish the following:

Flower brake — Strawberry and undersown flower mix at least every other year (at least two optional species of seed and nectar-rich plants per m²). The deadline for undersowing is 30 April.

Pollinator insects — Strawberry plots and undersown flower mixtures at least every other year (at least three specific pollen- and nectar-rich plant species per m²). The deadline for undersowing is 30 April.

Flowerbed edging — Strawberry and undersown flower mix at least every other year (at least two optional species of seed and nectar-rich plants per m²). The deadline for undersowing is 30 April.

No agricultural activity may be carried out on a small biotope. The area may consist of uncut grass, trees and bushes, or be wet.

You must actively cultivate your land throughout the calendar year, as long as the cultivation is not for production purposes. Remember that biotopes under this scheme may be a maximum of 1 hectare in size, and must be marked on the map.

Flower brake

For flower strips, all our game cover mixtures can be used to meet the requirements. Several species are biennial.

Pollinator brake It is a requirement for a pollinator habitat that you use at least three different plant species, as set out in the specific plant species list. The following seed mixtures meet this requirement:

  • Flower brake and grass – 8 species
  • Deerblend – 6 species
  • Pheasant blend – 5 species

The mixtures contain biennial species, which allows for reuse in year two. However, it should always be a professional individual assessment whether one believes the area can be approved as a pollinator fallow in year two, or if it should be re-established.

Microhabitat

The ground cover on a small biotop can consist of last year's stubble field, which has been left lying, be a previously used grassland, or be last year's flower mixture (e.g. from a previously reported flower and/or pollinator fallow field).

You also have the option to carry out soil treatment for your micro-biotope if it takes place in connection with either moistening, planting of trees and shrubs, and/or planting of a ground cover that is not a production crop.

You must actively plant your area with trees and bushes and/or ground cover throughout the calendar year, as long as the planting is not for production purposes. Therefore, it is possible to use our Deer blend, Pheasant blend, and flower fallow without grass.
